Opportunity Sites
The regional planning team is currently conducting a five-year update for each of the region’s four Opportunity Sites. The updated plans will provide local governments and implementation partners with an assessment of progress made on their respective SNS Opportunity Site Implementation Strategies as well as with updated actions and ideas for continuing work in these unique areas.
As part of the SNS regional planning effort, regional planning partners identified four specific locations – known as Opportunity Sites – that are well suited to model the planning principles and recommendations that are identified in the Regional Policy Plan. The four Opportunity Sites are:
- Boulder Highway at Gibson Rd./Broadbent Blvd.
- Downtown North Las Vegas
- Las Vegas Medical District
- Maryland Parkway Corridor
A SNS Opportunity Site Implementation Strategies report was developed for each Opportunity Site, detailing opportunities and barriers for redevelopment as well as revitalization strategies for each site. The four SNS Opportunity Site Implementation Strategies reports were adopted alongside the SNS Regional Policy Plan in 2015.
More than five years removed from this planning process, it is now time to evaluate and update each of these plans.

The SNS Regional Policy Plan includes seven implementation priorities, one of which is to implement the four SNS Opportunity Site Implementation Strategies plans. While implementation of these strategies primarily falls within local government’s responsibilities, the plan emphasizes maintaining regional support for the implementation priorities, sharing updates and lessons learned, and integrating updates and evaluation of the Regional Policy Plan into administration of the plan. As such, this review process is an opportunity for the region to consider how we measure and evaluate the regional planning work that is being done around the valley in order to implement the principles and strategies of the Regional Policy Plan.
