HISTORY OF SOUTHERN NEVADA STRONG

Southern Nevada Strong (SNS) is the first official regional plan for Southern Nevada. The planning began in 2011 with a $3.5 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. This money funded research and outreach over three years.

In 2012, SNS development started, involving community feedback through many events and meetings. By 2015, SNS was officially adopted as the regional guide. Later that year, the Regional Transportation Commission (RTC) took over managing the plan and created a Steering Committee to oversee it.

The RTC’s job includes raising awareness of the plan, supporting its implementation, encouraging collaboration among local groups, and involving the public in planning discussions.

HOW IS SOUTHERN NEVADA STRONG MOVING FORWARD?

The SNS team is actively providing tools, training, and technical expertise to help regional partners and community groups implement the SNS Regional Plan. We are empowering Nevadans to take action to create the communities they want to live in through several key initiatives:

Educating Community Leaders: Advancing transit-oriented development (TOD) by sharing best practices from across the country.

Enhancing Coordination: Increasing collaboration among community partners to access new funding from both public and private sources.

Encouraging Public Participation: Promoting the Southern Nevada Strong vision to engage the community in the public process.

Measuring Progress: Tracking implementation progress and sharing data to keep everyone informed.

We are currently updating our plan to reflect the many changes and developments in our community.
